Aiken County Sheriff Marty Sawyer announced today that investigators now believe 4-year-old Javeayah Harris is deceased, calling it "the hardest announcement" of his 36-year law enforcement career. According to Sheriff Sawyer, the investigation indicates Javeayah had been deceased for at least one month, meaning it was already too late to save her when the 911 call reporting her missing was made on June 30. Authorities have arrested Javeayah's parents: Johmarea Harris, 23 – Charged with Homicide by Child Abuse Michilae Herring, 22 – Charged with Homicide by Child Abuse and Filing a False Police Report Sheriff Sawyer stated that additional charges may be forthcoming. Although investigators no longer believe Javeayah is alive, the search has not ended. Law enforcement agencies continue searching an area of interest outside of Aiken County in an effort to bring her home. Sheriff Sawyer also asked the public to respect the privacy of Javeayah's extended family during this devastating time. He thanked the many local, state, and federal agencies, volunteer firefighters, media partners, and members of the community who supported the search efforts through information, donations, prayers, and volunteer assistance. This remains an active and ongoing investigation. 💜 Rest in peace, sweet Javeayah. May justice be served. #JaveayahHarris #AikenCounty #SouthCarolina #MissingChild #ChildAbuse
