Van conversion - Part 7 Kitchen units Building upon the structure of the shower, I secured The first section of the kitchen, beneath the sliding window. It is anchored to the shower, walls, and floor, providing plenty of strength while allowing me to determine the correct height & width for the kitchen worktop to meet my needs. After constructing the trap door beneath the sink unit, it was time to complete the remainder. This unit offers lots of space allowing me to create 5 drawers and 7 cabinets. This area will serve as the primary storage for the van, accommodating kitchen ware, water pipes, an LPG shower heater, a tank, clothing, accessories and electrical components. The second section was designed from the first, but slightly set back to open the room slightly. The fully open toe kick, meant I won’t have to lean over excessively. This section extends to the rear platform, where I found a small fridge freezer which would fit between the units and the roller door perfectly. Inside the roller door, I plan to construct a stud wall with a doorway and a window. I will provide further details on that shortly, but essentially, this is where the kitchen unit will end. Following the rough design, I built the structures with 2”x 2” timber and secured everything together. For the drawers I used 0.5”x 1” to create the wooden runners, which turned out to be more effective than I had anticipated and saved me some costs. However I did like the idea of push to open drawers runners, so I order a pair to test. Once they arrived I discovered only one runner mechanism worked. After reaching out to the supplier and receiving replacement mechanism, I noticed that the drawer end bracket was damaged.
