Tiny framing changes can make a much bigger difference than people realize. When I am helping someone through a custom build, one of the things I do is walk the house often while it is being framed. Not just to look at the progress, but to actually pay attention to how the home is going to function once you are living in it. How will this door swing? Does this hallway feel tight? Is this closet actually going to serve a purpose? Is something feeling different than what we originally planned on paper? This was one of those moments. There was a small closet space framed in, and once I saw it in person, I could tell it was not going to be very helpful. It was going to be small, it would require another door, and it was sitting right beside a pantry that could actually use the extra space. So instead of keeping a tiny closet just because it was on the plan, I brought up the option of letting the pantry absorb that space. Now there is one less door needed and a much more functional pantry right off the kitchen. That is the kind of thing that can be hard to catch when you are only looking at plans. But when you are standing in the actual framed space, you start to see how the home is really going to feel. I always like to give my clients options. Not because every suggestion needs to be changed, but because I want them to think through how they are actually going to live in the home. Sometimes they hear the option and realize it would make their daily flow so much better. Other times, they decide the original plan still works best for them. I would say it is probably about 50/50 on an average build. Sometimes the suggestion is helpful and they implement it. Sometimes it does not fit the way they function, and we leave it alone. But I am never shy about bringing up options, especially during framing. This is the stage where small adjustments can usually be made much easier than later, and those little changes can make a home feel so much better once you are actually living in it. #lifebuiltinky #kentuckyliving #customhomebuild #countryliving #intentionalliving
