Our mission was simple: explore remote offshore structures, search for yellowfin tuna, and unlock new deep-water jigging opportunities. The tuna fishing proved challenging, with plenty of football-sized yellowfin keeping us busy throughout the trip. On our final day, we finally found signs of bigger fish. We hooked a beautiful yellowfin estimated around 150 pounds, fought it all the way to within four feet of the boat… and then heartbreak struck. The hook pulled free just before the gaff. That’s fishing, and that’s what keeps us coming back. We also released a beautiful sailfish estimated around 90 pounds, adding another unforgettable moment to the expedition. Where this trip truly shined was deep jigging. The offshore structures produced phenomenal trophy fish. Massive Cubera Snapper, hard-fighting Amberjack, Brown Grouper, Red Snapper, and other deep-water species kept the rods bent day after day. Highlights included an incredible 54 kg (120+ lb) Amberjack, another Amberjack over 30 kg, and a giant 35 kg Cubera Snapper—the kind of fish every jigging angler dreams about. Sea conditions couldn’t have been better. Flat calm water for nearly the entire expedition, light 6–8 knot winds, and warm 88°F surface temperatures made for ideal exploring conditions. One of the best parts of the trip happened after sunset. We spent two nights sleeping aboard O’tuna under the stars, mattresses laid out on deck, sharing hot meals cooked on the grill, telling fishing stories, and preparing for another sunrise on the open Pacific. These are the moments that make expeditions unforgettable. Every exploratory trip teaches us something new. We discover productive structure, learn fish behavior, and continue building opportunities for future adventures.
