👀The visual difference here is really interesting because it gives a clue about which side the rider prefers to load through the pelvis. The left leg moves out to the side easily, with minimal resistance or pelvic shift. The rider already has more weight and stability through the right seatbone. The body feels comfortable staying loaded on the right side while the left leg moves independently. In contrast, when the right leg is taken away, the rider struggles more. The pelvis shifts, the whole body leans, and the rider does not feel as comfortable loading the left side, right hip can just move on its own. This was the same pattern we saw when this rider was in a walk. As the horse moved left, her body dropped right. Off-horse assessment showed reduced left hip internal rotation, which made it harder for her to comfortably load the left seatbone and control the pelvis on that side. After physio treatment and rehab exercises, she became more comfortable loading the left side, allowing the right leg to move away more freely without the pelvis compensating or leaning right. It’s a quick test to see which side the rider feels happier loading. And can help draw body awareness to finding balance in the centre. Can you guess from this which leg the rider feels is her ‘stronger’ leg when riding? #riderphysio #riderbiomechanics #ridingexplained #horseriding
