Despite Cork City’s dramatic 4-3 defeat to Longford Town, without Murphy the game wouldn’t have even been close. Week after week, he’s proving why he’s one of the brightest talents in Irish football. From midfield, Murphy has now registered 4 goals and 6 assists in just 20 league starts this season, remarkable numbers for a player who is only 16. With the U17 World Cup on the horizon later this year and interest continuing to grow from clubs across Europe, it’s easy to see why he’s attracting so much attention (Arsenal is very unlikely - he will go somewhere who will provide first team football instantly.) His future looks incredibly bright, but right now he’s fully focused on lighting up the First Division. There’s a genuine argument that Killian Murphy has been the best player in the division this season. At just 16 years of age, he’s playing with a maturity, quality and consistency far beyond his years.
