Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a temporary work authorization program for F-1 visa international students in the U.S. It allows students to work for up to 12 months (or 36 months for STEM fields) in jobs directly related to their major area of study, either during (pre-completion) or after (post-completion) their academic studies.
