Most workplace expectations are built through repeated patterns, not explicit conversations. If you answer emails and Teams messages at 10PM long enough, people stop seeing it as “above and beyond.” They start seeing it as your normal availability. One of the easiest ways to protect yourself from this: Use “Schedule Send.” Working late? Right click the send button and schedule the message for the next morning. You still get to clear your brain and move work forward… without training your boss and coworkers to expect 24/7 access to you. A lot of burnout starts as accidental people training.
