𝟳𝟮,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆… 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 In the tense darkness of the Garden of Gethsemane, armed men arrived to arrest Jesus Christ. His disciple Saint Peter reacted instantly, drawing his sword in a desperate attempt to defend his Master. Twelve legions would mean over 72,000 heavenly warriors — a force capable of obliterating any earthly army in moments. Imagine the scene. Thousands of angels stood ready. One command… One word… And heaven itself was prepared to intervene. The arrest would have ended instantly. Yet Jesus never gave that command. He allowed Himself to be bound. He allowed Himself to be mocked. He allowed Himself to be crucified. Not because He was powerless. But because He chose the cross. The soldiers who came to seize Him would have been powerless before the armies of heaven. But the command never came. Jesus did not call the angels. He did not summon the armies of heaven. Instead, the one who had the authority to unleash 72,000 celestial warriors allowed Himself to be bound by ordinary men. That moment reveals one of the greatest truths of the Christian faith: Why? Because the cross was not an accident. It was not defeat. It was a deliberate choice. Jesus was not a helpless victim of history. Jesus chose obedience over escape. He chose sacrifice over rescue. He chose the cross so that humanity could receive redemption. He was the King who willingly surrendered, the Savior who chose sacrifice, and the Son who obeyed the divine plan for humanity’s redemption. In that moment, the greatest display of power was not calling the angels. It was refusing to call them. The world did not take His life from Him. He willingly laid it down. 72,000 angels stood ready.
