🇩🇰 Denmark begins automatically deporting migrants who commit violent crimes. Denmark has enacted a major legal reform to automatically deport foreign nationals who commit violent or serious crimes. Under the policy implemented by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s government, the country has removed standard judicial safety nets to ensure faster expulsions. This applies to any non-Danish citizen sentenced to at least one year of unconditional imprisonment. The new policy also removes the need for discretionary reviews that previously allowed judges to block deportations. The mandate applies regardless of how long the migrant has lived in Denmark or their local family ties. Migrants who resist deportation will be fitted with GPS ankle monitors under the supervision of a dedicated deportation czar. This new policy is meant to solve the issue where roughly 30% of deportation attempts for convicted criminals failed due to human rights appeals.
