Christopher Walken sometimes reads a script's question marks as statements, he told The New York Times Magazine in February 2022. Talking with David Marchese, Walken said he has always resented punctuation. A writer's question mark, exclamation point or period means the end of one thought and the start of another, he said, while in life conversation gets more 'schmeary', and sentences and thoughts overlap. So he will deliberately make a question a statement, or turn an exclamation into a question, just to see what will happen. 'Punctuation can be a stumbling block,' he said.
