AFM is basically a microscope that doesn’t “look” at things, it feels them with an insanely tiny tip 🪡 Instead of just seeing whole cells like with a normal light microscope 👀🔬🧫, we can map structures that are hundreds of times smaller like single DNA nanostructures 🧬 (which is one of the things I actually do for work hehehe). Under the right conditions, some AFMs can even image individual atoms ⚛️😱 If a light microscope 🔬 is like looking at a city from an airplane, AFM is like walking through the streets and feeling the ground under your feet ✨ #chemistry #physics #atomicforcemicroscope #univeristy #womeninSTEM
