A pull system is a workflow and inventory control method in which work is started only when there is actual demand from the next step in the process. Instead of producing goods or services based on a forecast (push), you produce exactly what the customer—internal or external—requests, in the quantity requested, at the time requested. Simple analogy Imagine a restaurant where the kitchen cooks a dish only when a waiter places an order. That’s a pull system.
