About the vehicle: The GMC PD-4501 Scenicruiser is one of the most distinctive coaches ever to travel American highways. Built exclusively for Greyhound in the 1950s, its split-level body, raised panoramic passenger section and three-axle layout made it instantly recognizable and decades ahead of ordinary buses of its era. This example has since been repowered with an 8.3-liter Cummins turbo-diesel inline-six, replacing the original Detroit Diesel setup with a much newer and torquier drivetrain. At 0°F, the slow cranking, heavy diesel combustion and huge exhaust note turn this cold start into a perfect showcase of just how much mechanical character an old Scenicruiser can have.
