That question right there tells me everything I need to know about the person asking it. "Why don't you just slow down and enjoy the ride?" Man, I AM enjoying the ride. That's the part you don't get. You think enjoying the ride is 200 miles, lunch, and a hotel pool. I think enjoying the ride is watching the sun come up in Ohio and set in Texas. Same road. Different appetite. Nobody asks a marathon runner why he doesn't just jog around the block. Nobody asks a guy who climbs Everest why he didn't just take the elevator. Nobody asks a guy who lives in a cabin in Alaska why he doesn't move to Florida and get a condo. They do it because something inside them needs to know where the edge is. Comfort never taught anyone anything about themselves. A thousand mile day isn't about proving anything to YOU. If I was trying to prove something, I'd quit after 100 miles when everybody claps. A thousand mile day is the conversation I have with myself when it's 2am, raining, I'm tired, my ass hurts, and the easy thing would be to stop. That's where you actually meet yourself. Those people you see commenting that stuff - they live for comfort, convenience, and safety. That's fine. The world needs accountants and lawn mowers too. But they are not my people. They've never voluntarily been cold, hungry, tired, scared, and kept going anyway. They think risk is something to avoid, not something to manage. They will never understand it, and you will never be able to explain it to them. Don't even try. I don't ride to relax. I can relax in my recliner. I ride to feel ALIVE. If you want comfortable, this ain't the page for you. If you want to see what happens when a 64-year-old man decides he's not done yet - stick around. ##1000miledays##1000milesaday##thousandmiledays##ironbutt##bikerguru
