Part 2 of our UConn Health parking investigation: where the hell does all the parking money go? Employees can pay $331.50 a year for Area 1 parking. Patients and visitors pay garage fees. There are citations, valet revenue, multimillion-dollar parking contracts and publicly funded parking infrastructure. What I still can’t find is the clean answer that should be easiest to produce: How much comes in, how much goes out, and does this operation make money? Until we have the actual ledger, I’m not calling it profit. I am calling for transparency. Because if money is coming out of workers’ paychecks every two weeks for parking, explaining where it goes shouldn’t require a financial scavenger hunt. Here are the main sources behind UConn Health Parking, Part 2: - UConn Health Staff Parking — confirms Area 1 costs $331.50/year or $12.75/pay period, while Area 3 is free. It also lists the garages/lots included in each permit type. - UConn Health staff parking rates and locations - UConn Health Parking Rules & Regulations — confirms the paid/free permit structure, the Area 1 waiting list, parking enforcement and restrictions on employee use of patient/visitor parking. - UConn Health parking rules - UConn Health Patient & Visitor Parking — confirms garage rates of up to $8/day, $7 valet parking, and other paid parking options. - Patient and visitor parking rates - UConn Health Shuttle Bus Service — confirms UConn Health operates multiple shuttle routes and currently identifies LAZ as the shuttle provider. - UConn Health shuttle system - UConn Health Board of Directors, June 2017 — shows the LAZ shuttle-services contract with a maximum value of $5.3 million through June 2025, plus an $8 million valet/garage-management agreement. - 2017 UConn Health Board materials - UConn Health Board of Directors, September 2023 — shows the LAZ valet and garage-management contract ceiling being increased from $8 million to $11 million through June 2025. - 2023 UConn Health Board materials - UConn Capital Projects records — shows the 16 Munson Road parking lot paving project closed at $1,377,675, primarily funded with UCONN 2000 Phase III money. - UConn capital-project records - UConn Health FY2025 audited financial statements — reports $169.195 million in “contract and other operating revenues,” but does not separately disclose parking revenue, which is why I’m not claiming UConn Health makes a net parking profit without further records. - UConn Health FY2025 audited financial statements #uconnhe#uconnhealtha#hospitalparkingc#healthcareworkerss#workersrightst#connecticutnews
