🇦🇺 A LOT HAPPENING IN AUSTRALIAN POLITICS RIGHT NOW… Three stories in particular caught my attention today — and they all raise some pretty big questions. 🔐 WHO OWNS OUR SECURITY? Wilson Security is one of Australia’s largest security providers. The Wilson Group operates across Australia, but its corporate history and ownership links extend to Hong Kong-based interests. ABC reporting has previously documented that the ultimate holding structure for Wilson’s Australian operations was linked to Hong Kong’s Kwok family. That doesn’t automatically mean there is anything improper about the company providing security services — Wilson Security is an Australian-registered company and has operated here since 2000. But when we’re talking about security and nationally important contracts, shouldn’t Australians be asking questions about ownership, control and who ultimately benefits? 📊 AND WHAT ABOUT THE POLITICAL LANDSCAPE? There are reports of internal polling being conducted by the LNP around the upcoming NSW election and the level of support for One Nation. Whether those numbers translate into votes is impossible to know — polls are only snapshots. But the fact that major parties are closely watching the minor-party vote tells us something important: The traditional two-party political landscape is under pressure. People are looking for alternatives and the major parties can’t afford to ignore that. 🏦 ANOTHER RBA RATE RISE And then there’s today’s news that the Reserve Bank has raised the cash rate by another 0.25 percentage points to 4.60% — the fourth increase this year and the highest level since 2011. For mortgage holders, renters and anyone trying to get into the housing market, this is another hit. The RBA says persistent inflation and rising cost pressures are behind the decision. But for families already struggling with the cost of living, the question is: How much more can households take? 🇦🇺 AND VICTORIA… A new poll has found 60% of Victorians rate the state Labor government’s performance as poor or very poor, while only 19% rate it good, very good or excellent. That’s a pretty extraordinary level of dissatisfaction. Crime, healthcare, cost of living and basic services are among the major concerns identified by voters. Four very different stories — but perhaps one common theme: Australians are asking questions. Who owns our critical services? Who is listening to voters? How do we make housing and mortgages affordable? And are governments delivering the basic services people expect? Politics is changing. The question is: are our politicians changing with it? 👇 What story concerns you the most? #AustralianPolitics #CostOfLiving #InterestRates #PoliticalChange #HaveYourSay @News24 @9News Australia @7NEWS Australia @One Nation Domination 🇭🇲 @Senator Pauline Hanson @Gerard Rennick 🇦🇺 @One Nation WA @One Nation Victoria @couriermail @People First Party FraserCoast @TheKarlStefanovicShow
