In Kill Bill: Volume 1, O-Ren Ishii (played by Lucy Liu) has one of the most iconic, tragic, and visually striking backstories in the entire film, which is uniquely told through an anime sequence titled "The Chapter of O-Ren." O-Ren witnesses the brutal murder of her parents by the sadistic Yakuza boss, Boss Matsumoto. She hides under the bed, memorizing the face of her parents' killer. By age 20, she becomes one of the top female political assassins in the world, eventually forming her own elite squad—the Crazy 88—and appointing her deadly teenage bodyguard, Gogo Yubari. O-Ren climbs to the absolute peak of the Tokyo underworld, becoming the first female boss of the Yakuza council. During a council meeting, a traditionalist boss named Boss Tanaka objects to her leadership due to her mixed Chinese-Japanese-American heritage. #Yakuza #Japan #China #asia #samuraisword
