HELLO FROM THE PEARL OF ASIA: PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA! 🇰🇭 First time in Cambodia and Phnom Penh immediately stole my heart — chaotic, charming, and full of soul. *A SHORT HISTORY OF CAMBODIA:* Once the center of the mighty *Khmer Empire* (9th-15th century) that built Angkor Wat — the largest religious monument in the WORLD. Phnom Penh itself was founded in 1372 by a wealthy widow named *Lady Penh*, who found 4 Buddha statues inside a floating koki tree along the Mekong River. She built a temple on a hill (_phnom_ means hill) — and that's how Phnom Penh was born. From French colony in the 1800s, to a dark chapter under the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s, Cambodia has endured so much but its spirit never broke. Today, it's one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing and warmest countries. *FUN FACTS ABOUT PHNOM PENH THAT BLEW MY MIND:* 1. *No McDonald's in the whole country.* Cambodia is one of the few countries in the world with zero McDonald's. They prefer their street food — and honestly, I get it. 2. *They have a bamboo train.* In the countryside near Phnom Penh, locals built a train from bamboo and wood that goes 40km/h on abandoned tracks. You can literally take it apart if another one comes! 3. *Motorbikes carry EVERYTHING.* I've seen 5 people, a fridge, live pigs, and a whole family on one motorbike. Here, a motorbike is a school bus, a delivery truck, and a family car. From Royal Palace sunsets to $1.50 iced coffee and riverside tuk-tuk rides — Phnom Penh is raw, real, and unforgettable.
