𝗝𝗔𝗠𝗕 𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗛𝗡𝗗 𝗔𝗗𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗬𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗛𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗦 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗪𝗜𝗗𝗘 — 𝗡𝗕𝗧𝗘 The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has announced that all Higher National Diploma (HND) admissions in polytechnics, allied institutions, and colleges of nursing sciences and health technology will now be centrally handled by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The directive, contained in a circular dated September 9, 2026, and signed by NBTE Executive Secretary Prof. Idris Bugaje, was addressed to all rectors and provosts of affected institutions. According to the circular, the decision followed a meeting between the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and key stakeholders including JAMB, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), NBTE, and the Federal Ministry of Education. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 - All HND admissions will now be processed through a centralised digital platform under JAMB, aimed at curbing illegal and compromised admissions. - NBTE has been directed to develop HND Admission Guidelines, including waiting periods for ND holders before proceeding to HND, and exemptions for certain ND health-related programmes. - Part-time admissions have been capped at 50 percent of each institution's approved full-time quota. - NCE/HND combination holders can no longer be presented for NYSC mobilisation. NCE holders seeking HND admission must do so through direct admission via JAMB and must first obtain a valid ND. - Only ND and HND certificates will be recognised for NYSC mobilisation in such cases. - The Minister of Education is expected to review the list of ND agriculture-related programmes currently exempted from UTME requirements. Reacting to the development, JAMB's Head of Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin, confirmed the board's compliance, describing it as "a directive from above" that JAMB would implement to ensure the government's objectives are achieved. The NBTE warned that all institutions must strictly comply, noting that violations could attract regulatory sanctions, including withdrawal of operational licences.
