I will always say that grief is grief. There is no hierarchy of loss and no one person’s heartbreak is greater than another’s. But I do believe suicide brings its own complicated layers of grief. The questions you may never get answers to. The guilt. The constant replaying. The trauma. The anger. The rejection. The jealousy and bitterness you’re almost ashamed to admit. The endless why? Why me? Why my kids? Why? And when you’ve lost the parent of your children, you’re grieving for them too. A whole future they should have had together, while somehow having to find the words to explain something you still don’t fully understand yourself. More than three years later, I’ve realised that some parts of this grief have softened and others I may carry for the rest of my life. I’m learning that I can miss him and be angry with him. I can understand that he was struggling and still wish he’d stayed. I can be grateful for the life I have while still feeling bitter about the one that was taken from us. All of those things can exist at once. Suicide is how he died. It will never be the most important thing about how he lived. 🤍 For anyone navigating suicide bereavement, I hope this makes you feel a little less alone. #SuicideBereavement #SuicideLoss #GriefAfterSuicide #SurvivorOfSuicideLoss #GriefAwareness
