Right after I got off stage from soundcheck at San Diego Pride, I heard some Christians outside preaching from a distance, condemning people, telling us we’re going to burn in hell. So of course I had to walk over. Honestly, it was triggering, because I grew up with that same thing in my family in Alabama, using the word of God to bash people and traumatize them. I still deal with religious trauma to this day. It’s gotten better, but some days it hits different, and hearing that out there brought it right back up. And here’s the thing. I’m not even Christian. I’m spiritual. But I stood there saying, God is love, because if it’s not coming from love, it’s not God. Why would a GOD WHO CREATED YOU SEND YOU TO BURN IN HELL? 🤣😭 THATS HATE! IDGAF! It’s wild that someone who isn’t even Christian is the one speaking in love, while they were out there saying they’re trying to bring souls to Christ but showing up in a tone of pure hate. That’s not evangelism, that’s HARM SMH. It’s okay to have your beliefs. It’s not okay to bring them into a space that’s predominantly LGBTQ, on a Saturday, to tell people they’re going to hell while we’re just trying to live and enjoy our lives. You could’ve been home doing something productive with your own life instead. I don’t know what era this is for me, but I know it’s a free one. I don’t care what anybody thinks or feels, I’m free, I’m me, and I’ll keep being a voice, not just for myself, but for my community. A lot of us are already fighting battles nobody sees, and representation matters. If you’ve got a problem with that, you’re part of the problem. PERIOD! Everybody ain’t as strong as others, some are still struggling bad mentally from what they went through with Christianity ✝️ and you don’t know how hearing harmful ideologies could take someone overboard.
