ARFID. This is not my usual kind of post, and it something I have avoided discussing for quite a long time. I have a lot of trauma and stress around food in my past, and it’s something that still causes difficulty but to a lesser degree due to having a strong set of boundaries around food and as an adult I am able to advocate for myself and communicate my needs. My autism diagnosis gave no dialogue to discuss this and as someone with low support needs this stacks up with the support given post diagnosis. Thus, I do not have an official diagnosis of ARFID but never expected to receive one. I have struggled with this since I was a child and feel it’s important for me to share as I have helped myself with this as I have grown and found coping mechanisms and ways to make food less off an issue for me This is a much more destructive experience for many people and although it at times impacts my nutrition and life, this is not to take away from more intense experiences but to bring light to them. The reality of ARFID for those it impacts even more than myself can be extreme ❤️ #autistic #ARFID
