If doctors could leave reviews for patients… addiction medicine edition. 😂 And before somebody gets mad: this is satire. These are not real patients, and honestly, most of the people I treat are some of the strongest, most resilient humans I know. But if you work in addiction medicine, you KNOW these conversations. 😂 “I don’t want to be dependent on Suboxone.” “I can quit whenever I want.” “Weed is the only thing that helps my anxiety.” “I don’t really have an alcohol problem.” “How long until my dopamine is normal again?” “Is there something I can take so I don’t have withdrawal?” And underneath the humor is actually one of the hardest parts of treating addiction: the addicted brain is extraordinarily good at constructing arguments that allow the addiction to continue. That doesn’t make someone stupid. It doesn’t make them weak. And it certainly doesn’t make them a bad person. It means addiction changes motivation, reward, learning, memory and decision-making. And recovery often requires doing things that feel completely counterintuitive to a brain that has spent months or years learning that a substance is REALLY fucking important. So yes, sometimes your addiction doctor is sitting across from you thinking: ⭐️⭐️☆☆☆ But we're still rooting for you. 😂 Because eventually I get to watch people come back and say, “Okay… you were right.” And THAT review? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We’re not just recovering. We’re reconstructing. #AddictionMedicine #AddictionRecovery #Recovery #SoberTok #Suboxone
