The Muslim Brotherhood has become one of American politics’ favorite Muslim boogeymen. Disagree with it. Criticize it. Debate its history and politics. But using distant associations with a sprawling, nearly century-old movement to smear Abdul El-Sayed as an extremist is intellectually lazy—and dangerously familiar. If there is evidence against Abdul, show it. If not, judge the man on his record, his policies, and his own words. Knowing Muslims who know Muslims is not evidence of terrorism.
