The BEST meal we had in Africa hands down (and we ate out every day, twice a day for 3 weeks lol). Escale Creole is an authentic creole restaurant run by mother and daughter. It was not only the best food we had on the island and in Africa in general but it was one of our favorite experiences. You felt like you were in someone's home getting the most delicious home cooked meal right in the kitchen in front of you. They hang a menu on a post in front of you and have 3 drink options, they bring the rum and ingredients to your table and you get to make the drinks yourself. Marie- Christine spoke to us for a majority of our time, immersing us in her home life and teaching us about her home food and culture. We also watched her multiple times run back and forth with an umbrella from cars so guests didn't get soaked so safe to say you're in incredible hands here. They're only open for 3 hours a day (12-3) so reservations are a must! And only open 1 Saturday a month. We ordered the Authentic Creole Porc Sausages in Rougaille, Taditional Creole Chicken Curry, and the Chicken Salmi with local spices (wine-based stew) which was served with rice, lentils, hot veggies, chutneys and dessert).
