What happens to newborn pigs is considered routine. At Hawkeye Sow Centers, a pig breeding facility in Leland, Iowa, mother pigs are locked in crates so narrow they can't turn around. Piglets have their tails cut off and their testicles cut out with no pain relief. They scream. Their mothers grunt from the next crate and can't reach them. Our investigator caught it on hidden camera. This isn't one cruel worker or one bad farm. The USDA says 100% of male piglets raised for food in the U.S. are castrated, usually with no painkillers. Pain-relief methods are approved and already used in other countries. The industry just chooses not to. You don't have to fund it.
