✨ Could your baby's "colic" actually be overstimulation? When we think about colic, we often picture a problem with digestion. But for some babies, the cause isn't in their tummy at all—it's in their nervous system. A newborn's nervous system is still developing. Every sound, light, touch, smell and movement has to be processed, and some babies reach their limit much sooner than others. When that happens, they can become overwhelmed and their body responds with crying, tension and difficulty settling. Some signs your baby may be struggling with overstimulation include: 🌪️ Jerky arm and leg movements 😭 Sudden, intense crying that seems to come from nowhere 👀 Looking away or avoiding eye contact ✊ Clenched fists or a stiff, tense body 😴 Difficulty switching off or settling to sleep after busy periods The important thing to remember is that overstimulation isn't the cause of every baby's colic. Some babies are uncomfortable because of feeding difficulties, oral dysfunction, an immature gut, infant dyschezia, allergies and intolerances, or reflux. The key is identifying which underlying cause is affecting your baby, because that's what determines the right solution. I know how confusing this can be because I've been there myself. As a mum, I experienced colic with two of my own babies. Even as a Nutritional Therapist, it led me to specialise in infant gut health and colic and later train as a Breastfeeding Counsellor, because I wanted to understand why babies cry in pain and how to help them. This is exactly what I teach inside The Calm Baby Course—how to identify your baby's symptoms, interpret what they mean, and create a personalised plan to resolve them. Because once you understand why your baby is uncomfortable, choosing the right solution becomes so much easier. 💛 If you'd like to learn more use the link in my bio. #ColicBaby #FussyBaby #NewbornSupport #TheColicMama
