Curtis Brown, former superintendent of the South Slave Divisional Education Council of Nunavut, is facing seven criminal charges involving alleged sexual offences against minors, including sexual assault, sexual exploitation of a youth between 16 and 18 while in a position of authority, and invitation to sexual touching. The charges involve alleged offences against underage victims. A publication ban is in place to protect their identities and prevent the release of case details. Brown served as superintendent of the South Slave Divisional Education Council from 1999 to 2022 after working as a teacher in Kinngait. He was also named Canadian Superintendent of the Year in 2011 and received the Governor General’s Polar Medal in 2019. Brown previously faced workplace bullying and harassment allegations during his leadership.
