The programme, in partnership with 𝙁​𝙖​𝙢​𝙞​𝙡​𝙮​ ​𝘾​𝙖​𝙧​𝙚​ ​𝙋​𝙝​𝙖​𝙢​𝙖​𝙧​𝙘​𝙮​, will run for six months, from 1 August 2026 to 31 January 2027, and offers up to a 50% discount on eligible medical prescriptions for residents of Phikwe West. The initiative comes at a time when many public health facilities continue to experience shortages of medicines, forcing patients to purchase their prescriptions from private pharmacies at significant personal expense. Healthcare is a fundamental right, and no resident should be denied treatment because prescribed medication is unavailable at government hospitals. The scheme is exclusively available to Phikwe West residents and covers three categories of medical prescriptions: 𝘼𝙘𝙪𝙩𝙚 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨​ – medication prescribed for short-term illnesses or temporary medical conditions. 𝙎​𝙪​𝙧​𝙜​𝙞​𝙘​𝙖​𝙡​ 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨​ – medicines and medical requirements associated with surgical procedures, including pre-operative and post-operative care. 𝘾​𝙝​𝙧​𝙤​𝙣​𝙞​𝙘​ 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨​ – long-term medication for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, HIV/AIDS and high cholesterol. Patients with valid prescriptions or undispensed medication orders are encouraged to visit the Office of the Member of Parliament for Phikwe West to access the subsidy before purchasing their medication from 𝙁​𝙖​𝙢​𝙞​𝙡​𝙮​ ​𝘾​𝙖​𝙧​𝙚​ ​𝙋​𝙝​𝙖​𝙢​𝙖​𝙧​𝙘​𝙮​. 𝙁​𝙖​𝙢​𝙞​𝙡​𝙮​ ​𝘾​𝙖​𝙧​𝙚​ ​𝙋​𝙝​𝙖​𝙢​𝙖​𝙧​𝙘​𝙮​ has partnered with the initiative to ensure that qualifying beneficiaries receive discounted medication while maintaining professional pharmaceutical standards. The collaboration demonstrates how partnerships between public representatives and the private sector can complement government healthcare services, particularly during periods of medicine shortages. The subsidy programme is expected to benefit elderly patients, people living with chronic illnesses, and low-income families who often struggle to afford essential medication.
