Some parents believe their role automatically places them above accountability. They confuse being the parent with having permanent authority, so questioning their behavior feels like disrespect rather than a reasonable response to being hurt. In this hierarchy, they are allowed to criticize, control, dismiss, or wound you, while you are expected to remain respectful simply because they are your parent. But a family role does not grant immunity from accountability. ⚖️ What to Do About It: Stop confusing respect for a role with permission to mistreat you.
