𝐇𝐑𝐇 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐉𝐢𝐠𝐲𝐞𝐥 𝐔𝐠𝐲𝐞𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐳𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐏𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐬𝐡𝐨 His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck granted an audience to Kinley Phuntsho in recognition of his outstanding achievement in winning a bronze medal at the Asian U19 & U23 Boxing Championships, held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 3–16 July 2026. During the audience, His Royal Highness warmly congratulated Kinley on this historic accomplishment and commended his dedication, perseverance, and unwavering determination in representing Bhutan with distinction among Asia's finest young boxers, bringing great pride and honour to the nation. HRH emphasized, that is precisely the progression the BOC is working to enable through the new National Sports Ecosystem, a National Sports Calendar connecting every dzongkhag to a competitive pathway, a National Games in November 2027 giving athletes from every corner of Bhutan a stage to perform and be seen, a national coach certification framework that multiplies the expertise already producing international results, and a commercial platform through Bhutan Sports Ventures Limited generating sustainable revenue for athlete development. The progression from the Dzongkhags to the National Games, the Asian Games, and ultimately the Olympic Games is no longer merely an aspiration. It is a pathway that is already unfolding, with boxing leading the way. Reflecting on the progress of boxing in Bhutan, HRH acknowledged that the Bhutan Boxing Federation is one of the smaller sports federations when compared to those of larger nations with extensive resources and infrastructure. Despite these challenges, Bhutan has continued to make meaningful progress through sustained commitment to athlete development. His Royal Highness also recognized the important role played by Chundu Armed Forces Public School in Haa, led by the Royal Bhutan Army, in grooming young boxing talent. The school has become the cornerstone of Bhutan's grassroots boxing programme, providing young aspiring athletes with opportunities to develop their skills from an early age and creating a strong pathway for future national representation. Kinley Phuntsho's bronze medal marks only the second time Bhutan has secured a medal at a major international boxing championship. His achievement reflects the collective efforts of the athlete, his coaches, the Bhutan Boxing Federation, the Royal Bhutan Army, and all those who continue to contribute to the growth of Boxing in Bhutan. The BOC extends its heartfelt congratulations to Kinley Phuntsho on this remarkable achievement and wishes him continued success in his sporting career.
