I haven’t done one of these in a long time, so let me reintroduce myself. My name is Cam Werner. I’m a real graphic designer and illustrator from Bakersfield CA. I run @canvasdesigncompany a Brand Design studio or whatever I feel like calling it this year. I started Canvas when I was 18 years old, knowing not a damn thing and have just been figuring it out since. . Logo & Brand Design, Apparel Graphics, and Poster Art are my favorite projects. . I’ve been designing professionally now for longer than when I had day jobs. I’ve somehow navigated my life long love for making art into the thing I do for money. I’m not good at much else, and I’m good with that. I love graphic design, man. . I’m a real designer. I carry a sketchbook on me at all times. I print out everything. I take pictures of obscure things to use as textures and backgrounds. I collect art and design books. I’m ungodly dyslexic. I buy tools to make my work better. I have thousands of paid fonts on my hard drive. Hundreds of brushes, textures, & templates. One computer. One iPad. Too many subscriptions. Bills. Rent. You get it. Making it work at all costs. . Within the last few years the convenience of Ai has changed the way we do things transactionally. Art is already undervalued. Now people have art at their literal fingertips. Typing out their asks for a quick turnaround of something that is a shell of something stolen. Then I get to be the clean up crew when they realize that generated art is still missing something.
