Our journey began with a visit to the Albreda Museum, where students explored historical artifacts and evidence relating to the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade, gaining a deeper understanding of an important chapter in our nationโ€™s history. We also visited San Domingo, home to the first church built in The Gambia, as well as the historic Anglican Church, providing students with valuable insights into the countryโ€™s religious and colonial heritage. The excursion then took us to the Chamen Songhai Agricultural Institute, where students toured various sections of the institution and learned about modern agricultural practices. Highlights of the visit included the Biogas Unit, Agroforestry Project, Ostrich Farm, Compost Production Site, Fish Pond, Poultry Section and the Incubator Facility. The visit offered practical lessons on sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation and food production. After the educational tour, we made a stop in Wassu for a well-deserved rest. Along the journey, students had the opportunity to observe and appreciate the unique topography and landscape of the Central River Region, which differs significantly from that of the Greater Banjul Area and the West Coast Region. The changing scenery provided an additional learning experience, helping students better understand the geographical diversity of The Gambia. As the excursion continues, our students remain engaged, inspired and eager to learn from the rich history, culture, geography and development initiatives across the country.
