Percival "Perci" Cendaña strongly defended Akbayan’s 'YES' vote on the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, criticizing Duterte’s absence during the House impeachment hearings and calling out what he described as a “Senate coup.” During his speech, Cendaña questioned why Duterte failed to personally face the impeachment proceedings despite the serious allegations against her, including betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, bribery, graft and corruption, and other high crimes. He also took aim at lawmakers supporting Duterte, saying Congress should not be intimidated by "a senator who suddenly appears in plenary throwing tantrums" despite long absences from the Senate.
