Some people aren’t emotionally regulated. They’re emotionally overcontrolled — and they’ve mistaken that for maturity. Being calm doesn’t automatically mean you’re emotionally healthy. You can be quiet, composed, highly controlled, and still be emotionally immature if you: * shame people for crying * treat vulnerability like weakness * get irritated by affection or emotional needs * struggle to show warmth * shut down instead of communicating * act superior because you “don’t get emotional” * dismiss other people as dramatic simply because they express feelings differently than you do Suppressing emotion is not the same thing as regulating emotion. Emotional maturity is being able to feel your feelings, understand them, express them appropriately, and still choose your behavior. And it also means being able to sit beside another human being while they have feelings without needing them to shut those feelings down so you can stay comfortable. You are not more evolved because nobody can emotionally reach you. You are not more rational because you’ve disconnected from vulnerability. And you are definitely not superior to someone because they cry, get excited, love deeply, want affection, or express themselves openly. The goal isn’t to become less human. The goal is to become emotionally flexible enough to be fully human without making your emotions someone else’s responsibility — and without shaming them for theirs. #EmotionalMaturity #EmotionalIntelligence #Healing #Relationships #emotionalregulation
