Consciously Uncoupled Sometimes, it becomes necessary to let go of a client...it's a tough call. But just like in any relationship. I’ve got a Dealbreaker. There are several reasons to end a therapeutic relationship, think, issues around ethics and standards of care, but outside of that, this is my Number 1. The work I do with High Achievers is about taking action (I call it, Change Awareness). Sure, a lot of therapy processes centre around talking, but if a client isn't interested in having the tough conversations, getting to the root of the issues, reevaluating or creating change, then they may not be ready for the type of change or work that is Mental Performance Therapy...at least with me 🫢 🚩My Red Flags 🚩 Consistently missing/late to sessions Not Engaging with the Strategy Close Mindedness Giving the 'I'm along for the ride' Vibe Letting go of a client isn’t about giving up on them, but it took me a while to learn that lesson. It’s about recognizing when the dynamic isn’t right and giving the client the opportunity to be met where they are on their journey...and avoid getting myself burned out. Note: The decision to refer out isnt made until we have a 'Coming to Jesus' Session where we discuss the barriers - the resistance to change, the fear of success, the limiting beliefs. This can usually help us get on the same page and realigned with our goals But sometimes it doesn't, and that's ok.
