A one-legged Palestinian, dressed as Santa Claus, spends New Year’s Eve trying to bring joy to children traumatized by the horrors of genocide. In an interview with red. media, Omar Abu Hashem (age 26) said, “I hope that next year I can be Santa Claus in a place without destruction.” Omar lost his leg in 2018 during the Great March of Return when Israeli gunfire struck those protesting at the Gaza apartheid fence. Displaced from Rafah after Israeli forces leveled his home, Omar now lives in a tent in Al-Mawasi, where he makes ends meet by selling coffee and tea.
