Sometimes with AuDHD — meaning people who are both autistic and have ADHD — processing speed can vary a lot. It can be slow at times and very fast at others. Most of the time, it depends on how familiar the person is with the information. If it’s a topic they already know well or are interested in, they may process it very quickly. If the information is completely new, their processing can appear slower compared to others because their brain needs more time to make sense of it. This is one of the reasons autism and ADHD are often missed or misdiagnosed. Many people assume processing speed must be either consistently slow or consistently fast. When autism and ADHD coexist, understanding and diagnosing becomes more complex. That’s why it’s important to have a strong understanding of both autism and ADHD, as they often overlap. Another common misconception is about intelligence. Not all neurodivergent people have a high IQ, and not all autistic people have a low IQ either. Labels like “high-functioning” or assumptions linking autism to intellectual disability can be misleading and sometimes interfere with accurate understanding and diagnosis. #audhd #otizm #dehb #autism #adhd
