✨ Could you simply place the decimal using logic?? There's a moment in this video where (I think) it's obvious where the decimal should go. When we get to 1792, and look at our estimate of 1.5, I hope that our kids start to think "The answer is probably 1.792". And honestly, l'd probably be ok with that and finish our problem right there! HOWEVER, like we will see in part 2 of this video, that answer is NOT always obvious! Think about 0.031 × 0.0002 Most people can't look at that and come up with a good estimate. We know the answer will have a 62, but after how many 0s?? That's the reason we need our students to know how to count the numbers after the decimal.
