From selling leftover fabric out of a yellow 2CV to a team of 20 people. And then nearly losing it all. This is Piet’s story (fifth generation): ‘My own chapter in the family business started in 1983. My father had just stopped the weaving mill and started a wholesale company. He still had leftover rolls of orange and green awning fabric. I had a yellow Citroën 2CV. So I started selling them. The rolls had to stick through the open roof, which meant I could only go out when it wasn’t raining. 😅 That’s where I discovered how much I enjoyed sales, customers and finding new markets. The business kept growing. We officially took over in 1988. We hired people, moved into larger buildings and eventually grew to a team of around 20. Then things changed in 2007. Our biggest customer, responsible for 28% of our revenue, disappeared. Later, three major customers went bankrupt. At some point I told my wife: “I can’t do this anymore. We have to stop.” After more than 150 years, it looked like the family business could end there. It didn’t. That difficult period eventually created room for a new beginning. And that new beginning became Tetcon.’ Next chapter: how we started again. #familybusiness #familiebedrijf #familienunternehmen #textiles
