How we started teaching Gwenni ‘swil’ (the Welsh word for shy) When teaching Gwenni a new trick we always use lots of positive reinforcement, marking the action with ‘yes’ and then immediately rewarding. For this trick we wanted Gwenni to cover her face as if she was ‘shy’. To get her to do the action initially we used a scrunchie that she’d naturally try to remove, we then took it away when she associated the action with the verbal cue.
