Barely slept last night. I kept thinking about the women who have lost their lives over the last few days - women who woke up, got dressed, made plans, went to work, went for a run… and never made it home. And as a woman living in Johannesburg, who enjoys road running, that thought hit me differently: “Am I next?” That could be me. That could be my sister. My friend. My colleague. My mother. It could be any of us. It’s heartbreaking that something as ordinary as going for a run, walking to your car, getting into an Uber, or simply making your way home can come with the thought of “Will I be safe?” We shouldn’t have to calculate the time of day, share our live location, call someone while walking, carry keys between our fingers, or constantly look over our shoulders just to exist. I don’t want to live in fear. I want to live. I want to run freely. I want to walk home without panic. I want to wear what I want. I want to travel alone. I want to laugh loudly, explore my city and come home safely. Being a woman in South Africa should not feel like a survival strategy. To every woman reading this: I see you. I feel you. And I’m praying for your safety. But beyond prayers, we need change. We need accountability. We need women to be protected - not told to simply be more careful. Because we deserve to live, not just survive 💜 #womenforchange #johannesburg #femicide #aminext
