Today I want to explain why I say ‘my dog has a brain disorder’ so casually, and so often. If you’re new here: Fenix has Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), a neurological disorder that affects his coordination and balance. He’s not in pain, has a full life expectancy, and is obviously 🙄 living his best life. Fenix has a mild case — but early life wasn’t always this easy. And I know it’s not all prancing ponies for every dog (or person) with CH. But that’s exactly why I talk about it the way I do. A brain disorder is not something to pity. Or hide. It’s not a lesser life. And having had the privilege of connecting with so many people experiencing a wide range of neurological differences, I feel pretty confident that neurodivergence comes with unique gifts and superpowers, especially when the individual has received enough love, support, and understanding. _______ But here’s something I’ve never really talked about though. I used to just share his cute prance with his signature songs. And for a while, that was enough. But social media changed — and Fenix stopped showing up in people’s feeds. I kept getting DMs asking “is Fenix okay? where has he gone?” while we were still posting every single day. Without a hook. Without a story. The algorithm just… moved on. So if you’re an OG — I’m sorry we keep rehashing the same hooks and the same intros. But it’s the only way to keep reaching new people who’ve never met him. And honestly? It’s working.
