A Colorado school bus driver was charged with 30 counts of child abuse after a reckless maneuver that endangered the lives of elementary school students. On March 1, 2023, the driver, identified as 60-year-old Brian Fitzgerald, slammed on the brakes of the bus while traveling at 9 miles per hour in an effort to enforce seating discipline among the children. This sudden action resulted in a chaotic scene, where at least 30 students, ranging from kindergarteners to sixth graders, were thrown forward, hitting the seats in front of them. Footage from the bus captured the incident, showcasing the confusion and distress among the students as they were jolted from their seats. Fitzgerald later explained to an adult waiting to pick up a child that he braked hard due to the students not listening, expressing regret for any injuries caused. In the aftermath of this alarming situation, Fitzgerald was removed from his duties just one day following the incident and subsequently fired from his position with the Colorado Douglas County School District. He was given a 12 month sentence after pleading guilty to the charges. #Colorado #SchoolBus #ElementarySchool #BusDriver
