Barack Obama’s Presidential center, in Chicago, is slated to open this spring, on Juneteenth. It will be the headquarters of the Obama Foundation, a sprawling training and networking operation for young leaders that has been Obama’s primary focus since leaving the White House. The campus, which is spread across 19 acres, cost an estimated $850 million to build. It’s situated on the grounds of a park originally designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and includes a museum, a playground, and a man-made sledding hill. The center is designed to be open to the community, “a physical manifestation of their life’s philosophy,” a staff member said. Obama offers a sneak peek of the center to Peter Slevin, who profiled the former President in this week’s issue of the magazine. Read his piece at the link in our bio.
