🌿 Red eyes after consuming cannabis? Here's the actual anatomy behind it. THC doesn't just go to your brain — it interacts with tissues all over your body through a signaling network called the endocannabinoid system. There are two main cannabinoid receptors: CB1 (mostly brain and nervous system) and CB2 (immune and peripheral tissues). When THC is consumed, heart rate initially increases — but at the same time, blood vessels throughout the body relax and dilate, causing blood pressure to drop. The eyes have an extremely high density of cannabinoid receptors, and when blood pressure drops, the tiny capillaries in the eyes dilate and fill with blood. 👁️🩸 That's why eyes turn red — and why it doesn't happen instantly. It takes time for those vascular changes to kick in.
