Colic is a collection of a variety of unrelated signs without any objective medical measurement. What is described as colic is very well understood in Osteopathy: it is corresponding to the expression of discomfort (which can be extreme) a baby would experience facing important mechanical imbalances. The only medium of expression a baby has is to cry. Crying is a way for them to release tensions (mechanical too as it creates an hyperpressure through the membranes of the skull and other structures). Like any baby at the end of the day, overwhelmed by stimuli, babies with mechanical imbalances will cry, they just have more discomfort and may cry a lot more. Forceps, vacuum and other traumatic events from a mechanical point of view, will be the ground of the mechanical imbalances which are called colic.
