Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his top commissioners declared a heat emergency starting Wednesday. Scorching temperatures are expected for nearly a week. NYC is launching cool vans and pop-up cooling stations, in addition to the usual cooling locations, and will extend hours at the city's larging swimming pools. NYCEM Commissioner Christina Farrell delivered a message to employers on Tuesday: "Please build flexibility into this week and look out for your people. No job is worth someone's health or their life."
